The Afghan Medical Association of America (AMAA) is a public benefit, nonprofit organization which has been in existence since 1992.
Membership No aspect of the membership has been denied on the basis of sex, race, color, age, creed, or national origin. The majority of members are physician but some of the members are non-physician who are contributing to the AMAA to further the goal of AMAA which has been set forth by the Bylaws and by the resolutions of the annual membership meeting. There are four category of membership which include active, allied health, honorary and auxiliary. The members meets annually for adoption of bylaws, election of president and board of Directors. The AMAA is perhaps the only Afghan organization with multi ethnic composition where
collectively proceeding successfully to send humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan
and helping with medical education inside Afghanistan.
Board of Directors and officers The officers in addition to the president include Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, which are elected from the Directors by the Board. The following are the current officer of the AMAA: Khushal A. Stanisai M.D., President Tom Haidar M.D., Vice President Habib Baha M.D., Secretory Raghbir Sing Bir M.D., Treasurer The Board of Directors is responsible to carry the actions needed which has been set forth by the resolution and goals voted by the annual meeting. The executive committee meet as needed under the direction of the officers and the key decision are subject to the approval of the board of the Directors.
The AMAA is an independent association and not influenced by any government or groups inside or outside Afghanistan. Activity The AMAA has sent funds to the children hospital, maternity hospital, and basic science teachers. The AMAA facilitated the affiliation agreement between Kabul Medical Institute (KMI) and Loma Linda University (LLU). The work has begun for the professors to teach in KMI. The AMAA has already participated in such education by providing lecture in KMI and donation of books and copy machine to KMI library and female medical education and nursing school. The resolution of the AMAA including the human rights issue, narcotic, terrorism, war and inappropriate edicts under the pretext of religion were sent to the authority in Kabul for consideration of changing the policies at the past. Congratulation and AMAA support for the new interim government of Mr. Hamid Karzai with invitation to the Minister of Higher Education and Dr. Sohaila Siddiq, Minister of Health has been sent to Afghanistan to visit AMAA leadership, travel to US and tour Loma Linda University. Dr. Sohaila Siddiq and Mr. Faez the Minister of higher education already accepted the invitation and recently met with AMAA leadership. The joint delegation AMAA and LLU rescentlt returned from a trip to Kabul and met with the above officials, Chancellor of Kabul University, Dean of KMI, Medical Staff and Students. An appreciation letter was sent to Mr. Bush in regard to his promise of rebuilding Afghanistan. AMAA and Loma Linda University sent next step proposal in regard to medical education inside Afghanistan to the interim government of Mr. Karzai and had frank discussion with said ministers.. We are looking foreword to an indivisible nation without outside interference and prosperity to all. We hope to see a democratic elective government to help all Afghan without any regard to ethnicity, beliefs or language spoken. Until then let not forget the orphans, widows, the hungry.
