Annual members meeting Saturday, December 12th, 2011 held in Diamond Bar California

In 2007, Dr. Momand visited Kabul University and Kabul Medical University.  He delivered lectures on the biochemistry of cancer and arranged to purchase and deliver laboratory supplies and laptop computers to the Biochemistry Departments of the Medical School and the Pharmacy School.  The laptop computers were purchased with funds donated by the Afghan Medical Association.

In 2009, Dr. Momand was awarded a grant from the Koshland Foundation to sponsor two faculty members from Kabul to travel to Cal State LA University and receive training in English and biochemistry research.  Professors Rahim Shamsulrahim (from Kabul Medical University) and Ziauddin Azimi (from Kabul University) received 10 weeks of intense training at Cal State LA University. Aside from English skills, they learned modern protein purification techniques, methods for enzyme kinetic analyses, DNA amplification, and gel electrophoresis.
Using the skill acquired at Cal State LA University, Professor Azimi collaborated with Dr. Momand to develop a new laboratory curriculum for Pharmacy students.  The new curriculum required modern laboratory supplies to serve hundreds of students.  The Afghan Medical Association contributed the majority of funds to purchase the laboratory supplies.  Students are now able to conduct hands-on experiments to improve their knowledge of clinical biochemistry.
