^{The Afghan Medical Association of America (AMAA) is a public benefit, nonprofit organization which has been in existence since 1992.}

Goals

The Afghan Medical Association of America is dedicated to improving the current health status of the Afghan nation and has been actively involved in extending medical and educational aid to Afghanistan. This association is not a part of any group or political party and is concerned with the basic human rights of the people of Afghanistan.

^{The AMAA is an independent association and not influenced by any government or groups inside or outside Afghanistan.}

Membership

The membership is extended to all physicians, allied health professionals and all other individuals who are interested in helping with the goals of this association.

^{Acceptance of membership is through the process of credentialing and extended to all of those who will abide by the Bylaws of the AMAA .} 

No aspect of the membership has been denied on the basis of sex, race, color, age, creed, or national origin.

^{The majority of members are physician but some of the members are non-physician who are contributing to the AMAA to further the goals of the AMAA which has been set forth by the Bylaws and by the resolutions of the annual membership meetings.}

There are four categories of membership which include active, allied health, honorary and auxiliary. The members meet annually.

Board of Directors and officers

There are 17 elected directors including four officers with two year terms. The president is elected for a 3 year term at the annual membership meeting.

^{The officers, in addition to the president, include a Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, who are elected from the Directors by the Board. The following are the current officers of the AMAA:}

^{The Board of Directors is responsible for carrying out the actions set forth by the resolutions and goals voted for at the annual meeting.}

^{The executive committee meets as needed under the direction of the officers and the key decisions are subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.}
